Rule #3 Focus

It can be hard to stay focused on a game when you have everyday life distractions or even just chat dialogue derailing your attention.  But always try to push yourself back in to a focused mindset so you can keep your kills/dps/micro/macro at the top lvl that you can achieve.  By doing this you will be able to get to higher ranking/better loot and this will only snowball into allowing you to easily get into the focused mindset again.

Rule #2

Teamwork is always key. 

Regardless if you are playing a single player game or a multi-player game.

Making sure your team survives is just as crucial as your own survival.
In L4D(2) you shouldn't ever stray far from your team. In FPSs you should cover your teammates (rambo-ing isn't always effective). In LoL don't fight their team solo.

Use teamwork and don't insult your allies (if multiplayer) and your chances of success will skyrocket!

Rule #1 Play for fun

Do not get frustrated with the game you are playing.
It is not out to get you and make your life miserable.
Gaming should be enjoyed and if you can not enjoy it, take a break.
